To this:
There was nothing wrong with the former vignette, but I just felt it was a little cluttered and visually complicated (if that makes sense?) for the room. After cleaning up the other clutter from the room, I wanted to simplify even more so I removed the tablecloth, as well as a few more decorative items. What got left behind were my wine bottles, a milk glass cake stand and a few other thrift store goodies, to give the table a somewhat monochromatic green and gray scheme. Here's what the pared down room is looking like now:
I also took a minute to spruce up our tabletop too, using my newly updated thrift store tray:
Grouping white items, such as the tabletop ceramics, our white chairs, and the new bowls at the cat food tray, helps to modernize our apartment and balance out all of the darker wood tones. Since we don't own the place and there's only so much money we want to invest in things we can't take with us, the trim color is staying wood-toned and the walls will stay yellow, although I know the room would look so much better with a new wall color and crisp white trim. But we're just gonna let it be. For now...
Thoughts on the new simplified dining room? Oh and I updated our Tour page to reflect these changes. Head on over there if you wanna get the full run down of our quaint casa.
