Bedroom Retreat: Part 2

We've made a little more progress in turning our oddly shaped bedroom into a master retreat. After prepping and painting we brought up the rest of our furniture and added a few accessories. A recent trip to HomeGoods yielded great results after I first picked up a new wreath for our front door makeover and then meandered over to the lighting department. The dresser that we brought up to our room is the shorter of the two that I refinished and it fits perfectly against the wall. The problem is that the lamp that used to live on it is too tall for our new bedroom because of the slanted wall. Here's how it looked in our old apartment:

So I'm meandering through the lighting department when two lamps catch my eye right away. 

Two urchin lamps right there before my eyes, I couldn't believe it. Remember I professed my love of all things urchins a few weeks back. And one of the items on my urchin list was this Horchow lamp, coming in at a whopping $185 bucks. Ouch.

And here I was with two perfectly good options right in front of me, one coming in at $24.99 and the other at $29.99. Did I mention I love HomeGoods? For a split second I wavered between the tough metallic beauty and the beachy white option. However a little closer observation convinced me that the white one just looked too much like a mini volleyball on top of a giant squished golf ball. This thought didn't exactly scream "bedroom retreat" to me so I quickly turned to the other stacked bronze beauty and made it mine. And what's even better is that it was the cheaper of the two. Yup- from $185 to just $25 I was certainly a happy girl.

It is just the perfect addition to the space and is helping it all come together. Another little addition was this floral bowl for my nightstand, also purchased from HomeGoods for three bucks. I use a bobby pin every night to hold my hair back when I wash my face and then it comes upstairs with me. So every night I take it out and usually put it on my nightstand but sometimes I miss. Or the cats get to them. This pretty little bowl was perfect for corralling my pins and any other jewelry I may be taking off before bed.

After bringing up the rest of our furniture pieces, here's how the room is looking now:

I love how it's coming together and I can't wait to get my hands on a bed frame (I just ordered it, its probably coming in next week) to bring our bed up to speed and make getting up in the morning a little less challenging (getting up from the floor isn't exactly ideal). I didn't want a footboard since it would take away from the openness of the bed so we're just going with an under the mattress frame so the headboard can steal the show.

Speaking of which, with the rest of our dark wood furniture in place I've decided to paint my $20 Craigslist headboard, keeping it light so the room will feel open and airy but still showcasing its beautiful curvy figure. Stay tuned...
