Painted Subfloor

After going back and forth with different ideas for my dressing room floors I finally decided to simply paint them a nice bright white. One of the major factors in making this decision is that it was totally free. After picking out the wrong paint color for our kitchen I luckily had an entire gallon of Antique White sitting in our basement just waiting to be used. Since I already had the paint on hand along with all the other painting supplies this makeover cost me absolutely nothing. And it's hard to argue with that. My other ideas were to just re-carpet the room but this involved hiring and paying someone else to come in to do it. Secondly I thought of maybe using some sort of peel-and-stick vinyl tiles but again this involved spending money and required a lot more of my time. Painting ultimately seemed like the best option and now that it's done I have to say I love it. It will never cease to amaze me what a couple coats of paint can do to a room, whether it be on the walls, ceiling, or floor!

To refresh your memory, here's what the subfloor looked like just last week:

And now:

Is there anything white paint can't do? I mean seriously. The room feels instantly bigger and cleaner and I'm so happy I finally did it. I think the next step is to get some molding cut to finish off the edges and caulk the seams between the subfloor panels. Truthfully I plan to throw down a nice big (light-colored) area rug so all the seams will be practically invisible anyways. I'd love to throw this down:

But with two cats (one being black) I just don't think it will be practical. Anyone have a flokati rug and pets? I really love it so we'll see where I end up on that. I've also still got my eye on this beautiful photo:

And hope to one day make it mine and finish off the room beautifully. To see my original plan for this room, check out this older post.
