Don't worry, I'm still loving our new floating shelves in the living room (from Target by the way) but I wanted to add just a little more interest. I've had this photo on my desktop for months now and I decided to take a little action inspired by this lovely office (originally seen here).
Can ya guess?
It involves a little bit of this:
I bought this ribbon at Michael's for pretty cheap a while ago without any real plans in mind so this project also came out to be "free" (just like the shelves themselves). And by free I of course mean that I paid for the items originally, didn't use them for months, and now get to use them without any cost. Woot! Another incentive I had to tackle this project was that I looked for a couple brackets to add some more support to the shelves and after coming home empty-handed (everything was too big/ornate) I knew I needed another alternative.
Basically what I did was use a thumbtack to pin the strip of ribbon where I wanted it, slid the ribbon around the bottom of the shelf back up to the tack and cut.
I secured the other end of the ribbon to the tacked part, covering the tack completely with three nail heads (originally removed here so again, free).
Repeat four times and voila- an instant (well, under thirty minutes) update to basic white floating shelves!
