Now that the bookcases for the built-ins are
sanded and deglossed, it's time for primer. I've been up to my ears in it since this weekend and there is no end in the near future. Even after the shelves and doors are finished (
finished em last night) we still need to build an extension onto the top of each bookcase so they reach the ceiling, which in turn will also need to be primed. The primer I'm using is this Zinsser water-based primer for all surfaces and it's great that the smell is not overwhelming or overly fume-y. The oil-based stuff can be pretty nasty but this has worked out great so far.
As recommended by the primer can, I will allow a full seven days after each coat for full curing time. I want to be as safe as possible that my paint will stick and hold on tight!
Please ignore the wild jumble of wires creeping out of our ottoman and attacking the curtain.
Just keeping it real.
I set up a little makeshift painting station in the basement since this non-stop rain has made painting outside impossible.
Now on the subject of paint: I will still be painting the built-ins themselves a nice crisp white. I want to go over to Benjamin Moore one day soon and grab a sample of White Dove since it seems to be
THE white paint color for furniture and kitchen cabinets. I will compare it to my trim color (Behr's off the shelf semigloss white) and see if they work well together.
As for the backs, I believe I may have made up my mind about the color...
Eek...I can't wait to paint!
