The one thing I really wish our house had is a fireplace with a mantle. I'd even settle for a faux mantle. But since we have neither I have to find alternate surfaces for my seasonal decor and the console in our living room fits the bill. It used to serve as our TV stand until we moved the TV down to the basement so now it just gets rearranged every month or so to fit the season. Although my theme this year is Modern Rustic, this console definitely veers more into the Rustic category, with a dash of vintage charm for good measure.
I brought our antique radio from the kitchen over to the console for some added height and I like how the darker wood balances out all the creams and tans.
The pinecone trees were a great find this November. I had been collecting pinecones to make a few pinecone trees myself when I stumbled upon these guys at a thrift store for five bucks each. They're originally from Target I believe last season. Needless to say I pitched the DIY idea and have been loving these guys.
My brother, my husband, and I made these tree limb votives a couple weeks ago. My parent's have no shortage of available wood at their house so we used a saw to cut them to size and a paddle drill bit to hollow out the space for a tea light candle.
The two glass trees are from thrift stores.
On the chalk board is one of my favorite lines from Hark The Herald.
P.S. I just ordered our photo Christmas cards last night from cardstore.com. If you're in need of your own they're running a promotion right now for 70% off-- I got 20 cards for ten bucks!
